Adult (Senior) Mens Division Description


MAHA ADULT (SENIOR) MEN'S DIVISIONS FOR DISTRICT / STATE PLAYOFFS
(see the current USA Hockey & MAHA Annual Guides for specific rules for qualifications)

NOTE: ALL TEAM ROSTERS ARE "FROZEN" AS OF DECEMBER 31ST. ANY PLAYERS NOT ON A TEAM'S ROSTER APPROVED BY THE USA HOCKEY ASSOCIATE REGISTRAR AS OF THAT DATE ARE INELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DISTRICT / STATE PLAYOFFS WITH THAT TEAM.

MAHA ADULT (SENIOR) DIVISION DESCRIPTIONS: Note: All players must be 18 years of age to play in the Adult Division.

ADULT U.S. (checking)
Very Competitive, checking; Open to all U.S. citizens; non-U.S. residents are eligible on a limited basis. Excludes players that have participated during the current season at any elite professional level (NHL, AHL, and European) or on an NCAA Division I & III team. Players that have participated in the following leagues before November 30 of the current season are eligible on a limited basis: (ECHL, CHL, IHL, UHL, SPHL, AAHA, and any Major Junior (other leagues may apply). Players that participated during the current season at any level of the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association) are eligible for this event. Approximately ten teams in the entire state. Winner goes to National Championships.

ADULT NON-CHECKING TIER I USA Hockey Non-Checking Tier 1)
Highest caliber of no-check; U.S. residents only; includes reinstated professionals; Excludes any player who has played during the current season as a professional or on any classification of NCAA college/college club team. Teams must have played (8) games as a team and each player must have played in (6) games to be eligible. Approximately 1% of the teams in the entire state. Winner goes to National Championships. Typically, these teams consist of former college and junior players. Some teams include retired professional players.

ADULT NON-CHECKING TIER II (USA Hockey Non-Checking Tier 2)
Good caliber of no-check; same qualification rules as Tier I; Teams must have played (8) games as a team and each player must have played in (6) games to be eligible. About 5% of the teams in the entire state. Typically these teams consist of former travel caliber players with some of the team being former college, junior or high school players.

ADULT NON-CHECKING TIER III (USA Hockey Recreation 1)
Recreational caliber of no-check; same qualification rules as Tier I; Teams must have played (8) games as a team and each player must have played in (6) games to be eligible. About 30% of the teams in the entire state. Typically, these teams consist of former house league players, players that did not play during their youth years and some former travel caliber players.

ADULT NON-CHECKING OVER 30 ("ELITE" DIVISION)
Very competitive caliber of play; U.S. residents only; includes reinstated professionals; Excludes any player who has played during the current season as a professional or on any classification of NCAA college/college club team. Players must be 30 years of age by December 31st of the current playing season - except goalkeepers who must be 25 years of age by December 31st of the current playing season. Teams must have played (8) games as a team and each player must have played in (6) games to be eligible. About 1% of the teams in the entire state. Winner goes to the National Championships. Typically, these teams consist of former professional, college and junior players.

ADULT NON-CHECKING OVER 30 (HOUSE / RECREATION DIVISION)
Recreational caliber of no-check; same qualification rules as Tier I; Teams must have played (8) games as a team and each player must have played in (6) games to be eligible. About 5% of the teams in the entire state. Typically, these teams consist of former house league players and former travel caliber players.

ADULT NON-CHECKING OVER 40 DIVISION
"Travel Caliber" teams. U.S. residents only; includes reinstated professionals; Excludes any player who has played during the current season as a professional or on any classification of NCAA college/college club team. Players must be 40 years of age by December 31st of the current playing season - except goalkeepers who must be 35 years of age by December 31st of the current playing season. Teams must have played (8) games as a team and each player must have played in (6) games to be eligible. Typically these teams consist of former travel caliber players with some of the team being former college, junior or high school players.

ADULT NON-CHECKING OVER 50 DIVISION
"Travel & Recreation Caliber" teams. U.S. residents only; includes reinstated professionals; Excludes any player who has played during the current season as a professional or on any classification of NCAA college/college club team. Players must be 50 years of age by December 31st of the current playing season - except goalkeepers who must be 45 years of age by December 31st of the current playing season. Teams must have played (8) games as a team and each player must have played in (6) games to be eligible.

ADULT NON-CHECKING OVER 60 DIVISION
"Travel & Recreation Caliber" teams. U.S. residents only; includes reinstated professionals; Excludes any player who has played during the current season as a professional or on any classification of NCAA college/college club team. Players must be 50 years of age by December 31st of the current playing season - except goalkeepers who must be 55 years of age by December 31st of the current playing season. Teams must have played (8) games as a team and each player must have played in (6) games to be eligible.
