The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association is proud to announce the hiring of Jason Reynolds as the organization’s new Director of Operations and Marketing.

In the new role, Reynolds will oversee the day-to-day operations, growth and well-being of MAHA and amateur hockey in Michigan. He will be in charge of managing and administering all player safety and SafeSport issues for the organization, while his duties will also include generating revenue through corporate sponsorships, marketing and branding of MAHA, establishing and overseeing programs that increase hockey participation and managing the overall communications plan of the organization.

“The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association is excited to welcome Jason to our team,” said MAHA president George Atkinson. “His unique blend of experience as a marketing manager for major sports brands and as a youth and high school hockey coach will be a great benefit to our organization as we expand and improve upon our efforts in the new decade in an ever-changing youth sports landscape.

“We have long identified the need to have a full-time employee to handle the day-to-day operations of our organization and assist with player safety initiatives, and we believe Jason has the experience and leadership qualities to make this position his own and help amateur hockey in Michigan thrive.”

Reynolds, a Canton resident, brings a wealth of experience in both business and hockey. A Michigan State graduate (B.A., Advertising, 2002), he has spent the past six years as the Community Marketing Manager for DICK’S Sporting Goods in the Detroit and Toledo markets; prior to that, he spent six years with Warrior Sports, working his way up to the Retail Marketing Manager for the Warren-based multi-sport entity.

A Livonia Hockey Association and Livonia Stevenson alum, Reynolds has been coaching amateur and high school hockey teams in the Metro Detroit area since 2002. He began coaching in the Canton Amateur Hockey Association from 2002-05 before returning home to Livonia, where he coached and served on the LHA board of directors as the association’s travel director. He has spent eight seasons as the head coach of Churchill High School, leading the Chargers to a state finals appearance in 2018.

“Like many others in our state, hockey has always been part of my life,” Reynolds said. “I am honored and thankful that MAHA is giving me this opportunity to serve the game that I love, and I look forward to doing all that I can to help our sport grow in 2020 and beyond.”

The management and administration of player safety and SafeSport issues is of paramount importance to MAHA, and a dedicated full-time employee for those responsibilities is a necessary addition. Reynolds will be in charge of the communication process for all identified incidents, while also working with associations, parents and players on safety education and best practices.

“Programs like SafeSport are critical to ensuring that all participants have the best opportunity to enjoy the sports they love,” Reynolds said. “With MAHA, I’m committed to making sure SafeSport policies and practices remain a priority. I want all participants to develop a healthy, lifelong passion for our great game as I have.”

Reynolds will also have a role in administering crucial programs like Try Hockey for Free, the ‘One Goal’ Grant Program, Player Safety Programs, Player Development Camps and more, while overseeing MAHA’s efforts in the management of all SafeSport issues.
