The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) sends its heartfelt condolences to the family of William C. Smith, Jr., who sadly passed away on Saturday, September 19th, 2020 at the age of 74.

Bill was the beloved husband of Cheryl, and the loving father of Kelli (Chris) Taylor and Sean (Sarah) Smith. He was the cherished grandfather of Sutton and Finn. William was the dear brother of Terri Kauppi and the late Gary Smith.

Bill was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 2, 1945 to William and Martha Smith. William and Cheryl were married in 1969 and were blessed with two children, Kelli Rae and Sean William. Years later he became a grandfather when Kelli and Chris had Sutton and Finn.

Bill joined the U.S. Army in 1967 and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam war. After leaving the Army Bill got a job with the Ford Motor Company where he was a co-manager. After 35 years he retired from this career.

Bill and Cheryl loved to travel and had many wonderful trips to Europe and within the U.S.  Bill was involved in the hockey world for over 32 years, when his son Sean started playing hockey. He was president of Victory Ice Center, a director for Victory Honda AAA Hockey, and a M.A.H.A. D4 director.  He was a dedicated supporter of youth sports and enjoyed every minute of it.

Bill made many lifelong friends through the hockey world. His happiest times were seeing his son win a national title and, in later years, watching his grandsons begin their hockey careers.

Bill was a loving husband, father, and papa, who always put his family first.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family will be having a private visitation with military honors for Bill.

Memorial donations can be made in Bill's name to:
