To the Members of our Michigan Hockey Community:

On Friday morning, Governor Whitmer held a press conference to announced a number of recommendations, including a two-week shutdown of indoor sports. This is in response to the increase in new COVID-19 cases throughout the state of Michigan.

The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) will complete its 2021 State Playoffs over the next couple weeks. Our organization has been in contact with the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (MDHHS), since the introduction of the MI Safer Sports COVID-19 Testing Program. They are aware of our commitment to compliance with the protocols outlined in this program, and they are aware of our intent to bring our 2021 MAHA State Playoffs to a conclusion.

MAHA recognizes our responsibility to support efforts to continue suppressing the spread of COVID-19. With this in mind, we ask our remaining State Playoff participants to be mindful of the following:

1) Weekly testing protocol is still required and must be followed as a condition of continued participation.

2) Masks must be worn on and off the ice, at all times inside the rink. While our on-ice officials are leading enforcement efforts during games, we ask that all coaches reinforce this policy with their players.

3) Please be respectful of the capacity restrictions in place, at each of our State Playoff locations. While we appreciate that this is an exciting time of year for all players and families, capacity restrictions are intended to minimize the spread of COVID-19. Please plan accordingly.

4) Please continue to adhere to strict social distancing standards, as outlined by the CDC. This is particularly outside the rinks — we encourage you to speak to your athlete about specific situations to avoid. This includes team dinners, sleepovers, carpooling, gym time, and other social gatherings outside the home.

We thank you for your time. We wish the very best to all State Playoff participants!
