Michael Palmer Appointed New Disabled Hockey Director

Palmer Serves as President of Motor City Veterans Hockey Association

CANTON, MI - May 26, 2021The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) announced today that Motor City Veterans Hockey Association President, Michael Palmer, has been appointed the new Disabled Hockey Director for Michigan. Palmer enters the new role with significant leadership experience in Disabled Hockey, including four years spent as President of the Motor City Veterans Hockey Association.  He also previously spent two years as Executive Vice President of the Michigan Warriors Hockey Program.

Palmer will focus on building awareness of Disabled Hockey in Michigan, in an effort to achieve growth in existing organizations as well as develop new teams. This will include community outreach efforts, establishing budgets to support growth initiatives, as well as ensuring compliance of any MAHA or USA Hockey Bylaws, Rules and Regulations affecting the Disabled disciplines. In addition, Palmer will represent Michigan to the USA Hockey Disabled Section.

“I am tremendously humbled and honored to be selected to serve our membership and MAHA affiliates,” Palmer stated. “The position of Disabled Director is such a pivotal role in our organization. As a player and leader within Disabled Hockey myself, I understand and value with this sport means to our players and families. It’s more than hockey. For many of our members, this is everything to them… and we owe it to them to facilitate a safe and positive environment for them to share, and experience, the greatest sport in the world. I look forward to the opportunity to help grow the game in all disabled disciplines.”

As current President and Director of Operations of the Motor City Veterans Hockey Association, he provides oversight to all organizational activities, cultivates relationships with key stakeholders, and delivers external communications about the program mission and its activities. In 2020, Palmer was Recipient of the Yontz Valor Salute, recognized by the Hendrickson Foundation and Minnesota Warrior Hockey for contributions to disabled veteran hockey across the nation.

Palmer is a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach and Board Member with the Troy Youth Hockey Association. He is also a career firefighter and currently serves as a Lieutenant for the Rochester Fire Department.
