Matt Kakabeeke - Coach-in-Chief, Michigan District

As we approach the middle of November, I would like to remind our valued youth hockey coaches of Michigan that you have until December 31, 2022, to complete a USA Hockey Coaching Education Clinic to remain on the roster, on the ice and behind the bench.

Most clinics are delivered in a virtual format (online), and you may attend any clinic hosted by any District/Affiliate if it works with your schedule – it does NOT need to be a Michigan delivered clinic. There is a variety of available clinic dates and times, which will fit in with a coach’s schedule. Clinics are first come, first serve, and not guaranteed to have seats available when you click on them. Please click here to locate a clinic.

The Michigan Coach Developers are also offering a few in-person Coach Education Clinics in the metro Detroit area. On November 19, a Level 1 clinic will be held at the Suburban Athlete Lab in Farmington Hills. Click here for more details and to register. On December 3, a Level 1 clinic will be conducted at Troy Sports Center, and on December 4, a Level 2 will be offered at the Troy Sports Center. Click here for the Level 1 or Level 2 for more info and to register.

If you need to review the process to become a certified USA Hockey coach, please click here.

If you would like to review your current USA Hockey coaching status, please click here.

If you are experiencing issues with your certifications, including SafeSport, please contact USA Hockey Membership Services, by clicking here.

I hope this information will assist you in complying with USA Hockey and the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) requirements and expectations for coaching youth hockey. Additionally, at this time I do not intend to issue any Temporary Cards for the 2022/23 season to coaches who fail to adhere to the aforementioned requirements and expectations.

I wish you and your teams the best of luck this season and THANK YOU for coaching this season!

Yours In Hockey,

Matt
