It’s no surprise when a Michigan native receives recognition for their success on the ice.
When two receive rookie of the week honors from their respective college hockey conferences, however, we figured a post to celebrate was in order.
Two former standouts in the Michigan girls’ Tier 1 circuit are thriving at the next level, and the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association would look to congratulate them both.
Elyssa Biederman, a native of Franklin, was named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.
It’s her fourth ECAC weekly award, as Biederman is thriving with Colgate as a freshman. She registered two goals and three assists in a weekend split with No. 10 Cornell; those points were additions to her now nine-game point streak.
Biederman is 10 points away from breaking Colgate’s freshman scoring record.
Meanwhile, Clara Yuhn, a Bloomfield Hills native, registered a goal and two assists to help Boston University to a 1-0-2 record over three games this past weekend. That stat line, along with her +2 rating, earned her Rookie of the Week honors from Hockey East.
It was Yuhn’s first weekly award; she’s fifth on the BU team in scoring with 10 points (five goals, five assists) on the season.
Last year, Biederman and Yuhn helped lead Little Caesars 19U to a national title.
