The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association has recognized the Greater Flint Hockey Association as the 2023 John Stansik Award winner for Association of the Year.

The John Stansik Award is given to the top performing member association in MAHA's annual Association of the Year Contest. The purpose of the contest is to incentivize local associations to rebuild numbers at the 8u level (post-COVID). Associations are measured on several specific growth measurements, and they receive points based on their performance in each of the categories. Those growth measurements are tracked throughout the year.

  • Supports MAHA and USA Hockey initiatives, programs and strategies designed to grow the game
  • Invests to grow the game and provide more children the opportunity to play hockey in their local area
  • Uses/develops creative and effective programs or methods to recruit and retain players at the 8U age category
  • Demonstrates a strong commitment to the overall development of its players, emphasizes skill development and teaches the fundamentals of the game

In addition to the John Stansik Award for the top performer, there are also cash awards for the top three performing associations.

First Place $7,500
Second Place $5,000
Third Place $2,500

Honorable mentions also go to the Grand Rapids Amateur Hockey Association (2nd Place) and the Livonia Hockey Association (3rd Place) for their successful performances in the 2023 Association of the Year Contest.
