New trophy in honor of John Kay unveiled before 18U Tier 1 championship

Prior to Saturday’s championship-clinching contest between Belle Tire and Compuware, the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association unveiled a new trophy in honor of the late John Kay. With his family welcomed onto the ice at the Taylor Sportsplex, it was announced that each year, the 18U Tier 1 champion will be the recipients of the John Kay Memorial Cup, as well as the traditional plaque and banner.

In a fitting ending, Kay’s Belle Tire boys captured the title, becoming the inaugural John Kay Memorial Cup winners. The trophy will live at the Taylor Sportsplex, while each winning team will take home a replica. Here’s a video from the on-ice tribute, with some photos of the new trophy and its recipients
