2021 Summer Meeting

The Registration "2021 Summer Meeting" is not currently available.

If you were hoping to meet in Grand Rapids for our annual meeting in July, you will have to wait until 2022. Due to the Corona Virus, the 2021 MAHA Summer Meeting will again be conducted virtually using Zoom.

The tentative meeting schedule is posted below. Our Executive Committee meeting will be held on Thursday evening July 8.  We will kickoff our meeting on Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m. with an opening General Session, followed by a number of individual presentation, which will be announced soon . Committee meetings will take place beginning on Thursday evening through Saturday. On Sunday Morning, we will close things out with a Board of Directors Meeting to address proposed rule changes, hear updates from committees, and take care of any final agenda items.

In order to receive the links to the meeting you will need to register for the event. Please click here to register now. You will receive an email with all the meeting links once we have everything set up. Please also regularly check your email as we will be sending additional information to you in advance of the meeting. You will not receive a meeting book, committee reports will be posted below on this website and they will be sent to you as a group prior to the meeting.

Once you complete the initial registration, the Board of Directors members will receive an additional email asking them to register seperately for the Board of Directors meeting Sunday. Note: That invitation will be exclusively for you and cannot be transferred or shared.

The Deadline to Register for This Event is June 26.

Biggby Co-CEO keynote speaker at 2021 MAHA Summer Meetings


Michael McFall

The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association is proud to have BIGGBY COFFEE Co-CEO, Michael J. McFall, as its keynote speaker at the upcoming 2021 MAHA Virtual Summer Meetings. As we approach a new season where membership growth will be top priority, McFall will discuss 'The Grind to Growth' with MAHA leadership on Saturday afternoon (1pm).

McFall will share his insights and expertise on achieving organizational growth, using common sense strategies that have helped lead BIGGBY to become one of the great specialty coffee brands in the country. In an effort to give back to the local community, the rapidly-growing 250-plus unit coffee franchise wishes to support the growth of Learn To Play, Mini-Mite and Mite programs in the state of Michigan to provide kids with lifelong skills.

Presenter

Born and raised in Michigan, McFall began his journey with BIGGBY in 1996, at the original store in East Lansing. Over the course of 25 years, alongside business partner Bob Fish, BIGGBY has grown to over 250 stores in 9 states. 

McFall is also the author of the entrepreneurial book, Grind.

Katie will provide an overview of all of the Program Services initiatives for 2021 -2022. Get you association back on the growth track for the coming season by using the tools that are available. You will learn how to rest your program for future growth and some of the new efforts by USA Hockey in Digital Marketing that will help you in that effort.

Presenter

Katie Holmgren has served as the director of program services since November 2018. She oversees the program services team, which works with local associations to provide volunteer support, help coordinate existing growth programs, resources via Club Excellence, educational opportunities and initiatives to develop youth hockey participation. She also serves as the liaison for the Pacific, Northern Plains, Central and Michigan districts. 

Holmgren was hired in September 2010 as the first ever Coordinator of Adult Women’s Hockey and was promoted in December of 2014 to Manager of Adult Hockey. Under the adult department, Holmgren has served as the team leader for U.S. Women's National University Teams since 2011. 

Holmgren is a native of New Hope, Minnesota and studied Sport Management at Iowa State University, where she played 4 years of ACHA hockey, serving as the team’s captain for 2 years. Before joining USA Hockey, Katie spent time working in professional baseball and hockey. She is a level 4 coach who coaches both youth and high school hockey in Colorado Springs.

Optimizing inclusion in ice hockey: Tips on creating and coaching a successful team for athletes with developmental disabilities


Jacqueline Kaufman, PhD

This presentation will provide an overview of key tips for establishing a thriving ice hockey program for athletes with developmental disabilities. Topics covered include an introduction to common neurodevelopmental disabilities including common behavioural and learning challenges, as well as myth busting about disability. Practical tips on funding strategies, athlete recruitment and retention, equipment management and community partnerships are discussed, as well as recommendations for on-ice practice/drills, scrimmages, and games/tournaments. 

 

Presenter
Dr. Jacqueline Kaufman (Coach Jackie on Sunday mornings) is faculty and a pediatric rehabilitation neuropsychologist at the University of Michigan/Michigan Medicine. Her clinical work focuses on the cognitive assessment of infants, children, teens, and young adults with neurodevelopmental disabilities and chronic medical concerns with a target of optimizing successful learning and functional independence. Her research has targeted individuals with severe speech and motor impairments, focusing on the development of neuropsychological measures that bypass these challenges. She is the co-founder and co-coach (along with Coach Kim Gearns) of the Ann Arbor Rockets ice hockey program, over 10 years strong. Jacqueline is honored to be a member on the board of United Cerebral Palsy of Michigan, advocating for disability rights in Michigan. In her spare time, she enjoys euchre, nature, meditation, and proudly serving in her capacity as one of the weakest defensive players in the MACRHL recreational ice hockey league.

Presenter

Stephanie Jackson began as USA Hockey's director of diversity and inclusion in June of 2019 and is responsible for developing and implementing strategies and programs to increase multicultural, ethnic and inclusivity efforts within the organization.

She brings with her 12 years experience in the discourse of community development, equity, diversity and inclusion.

Prior to joining USA Hockey, Jackson worked in diversity and inclusion communications with Nike, Inc. where she advised senior leaders and executives on diversity and inclusion initiatives; initiated content creation focused on inclusion in collaboration with multimedia networks including BBC, YouTube and HBO; and designed and executed diversity and inclusion strategy among employees which served as the foundation for driving Nike's North American diversity and inclusion platforms.

Prior to that, Jackson served as a social work graduate intern with Adidas Group and The NFL Players Association in Washington, D.C., where she focused on community development initiatives, organizing communications on sensitive subjects including race/class/gender, and mental health and wellness efforts for athletes. Before that she spent three years in strategy and process improvement consulting with a tax firm in Dallas, Texas.

Jackson holds master's degrees in business administration from the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame and in social work from Howard University, where she also earned a bachelor's degree in English.
