Bob Mancini, Assistant Executive Director of Hockey Development

Bob Mancini, Assistant Executive Director of Hockey Development

About Bob

With more than 35 years of experience, Bob Mancini was promoted to Assistant Executive Director of Hockey Development in September 2021, where he oversees youth hockey, coaching education, officiating education and player safety.

Bringing extensive coaching experience in the collegiate, professional and international ranks, Mancini was named a regional manager of USA Hockey's American Development Model in July 2009, providing local associations in Michigan and Missouri with a blueprint for optimal athlete development that focuses on age-appropriate training utilizing long-term athlete development principles.

About Katie

Katie Holmgren has served as the Director of Program Services since November 2018. She oversees the program services team, which works with local affiliate and youth association leadership to provide volunteer support, help coordinate existing and create new growth programs, association resources via Club Excellence, educational opportunities and initiatives to develop youth hockey participation. Her team works strategically with NHL counterparts on all growth initiatives including the NHL’s Learn To Play program. In addition, her team coordinates adult hockey events and works with USA Hockey’s adult council to provide adult league administrator support, as well as create growth and retention initiatives.

Ken Martel - Senior Director of Player & Coach Development

About Ken

With over 25 years of experience in player development and a long history as a coach with USA Hockey, Ken Martel was named Senior Director of Player and Coach Development in November 2022. He is charged with helping provide a framework for associations nationwide to follow for optimal athlete development.

From 2009-22, Martel served as the Technical Director of USA Hockey's American Development Model after spending two years (2006-08) at USA Hockey's national office in Colorado Springs, CO working on coaching education and player development initiatives.


Joe Bonnett - Player Development Manager

About Joe

As a Manager of Player Development, Joe provides nationwide support for USA Hockey's age-appropriate skill development efforts, bringing more than 20 years of hockey coaching experience, including 18 seasons at the NCAA Division I level.

Bonnett has been part of numerous USA Hockey Player Development Camps, including Select 14, Select 15, Select 16 and Select 17 camps. In 2003, Bonnett was an assistant coach with USA Hockey's Under-17 Select team, which finished in first place at the Five Nations Tournament in Prievidza, Slovakia.

Steve Feinberg - Marketing & Strategic Partnerships

About Steve

A Chicago native, Steve is a hockey player, hockey dad, and avid entrepreneur. His love of the game started in childhood with his father who, as the on-call physician for the nearby Old Chicago Stadium, would regularly examine and treat Blackhawks players.

Steve leads GameSheet’s sales and marketing strategy in the United States; identifying and engaging potential partners, expanding the GameSheet brand, and growing business relationships with hockey governing bodies and affiliate leagues.


Shane McCallum - Director of Product

About Shane

Shane grew up in the small town of Rossland, BC and developed his love of hockey while playing in the historic Trail Minor Hockey Association. 

Shane has worked with GameSheet from proof of concept in 2013, up until 2019 when he officially joined the company as Director of Product. As the GameSheet platform continues to grow in size and popularity, Shane is focused on executing our vision of creating the best sports scoring and league management tools for associations of all sizes.

MENTAL HEALTH FOUNDATION OF WEST MICHIGAN

The Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) is proud to have representatives from the Mental Health Foundation of West Michigan participating in the 2023 MAHA Summer Meetings!

Student-athletes experience challenges to their mental health. It’s as simple as that. This is a national conversation, but the way that we can effect change is to bring the conversation locally and to our teams. be nice. is an easy tool to use and understand for all ages and backgrounds.

Equip coaches with a game plan when they notice changes in a student athlete's mental health.

The be nice.Team program gives coaches and trainers the knowledge and confidence to take action when faced with a mental health concern.

Benefits of becoming a be nice. Team:

- provides simple and effective mental health and suicide prevention education

- provides a common language for coaching staff, players, and parents

- increases team connectedness and psychological safety

- increases team communication and trust

Christy Buck - Executive Director & Founder

About Christy

With more than 36 years of experience in the mental health field, Christy’s passion for transforming and saving lives through mental health education led her to develop two mental health and suicide prevention programs - be nice. and be nice.extension (formerly Live Laugh Love).

Since 2006, she and her staff have passionately presented to over 300,000 people in West Michigan on mental health awareness, bullying, and suicide prevention. She has been the keynote speaker at many events and regularly delivers speaking engagements to community and business groups on mental health awareness.

Christy’s determination to make mental health a part of the conversation has led to her involvement with numerous community organizations and coalitions along with becoming a certified instructor for QPR and Mental Health First Aid, for which she has been recognized as one of the Top 100 instructors in the country.


Derek Schaedig - Outreach Specialist

About Derek

Derek became involved with the Foundation in 2021 when he took part in the creation of a video to train high school coaches around the state of Michigan on the be nice. action plan. As a Program Coordinator and former men’s ice hockey player in college, Derek works with athletes and liaisons to help them implement the be nice. team program.

A graduate of Harvard University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, Derek has also spent the last three years as an avid mental health advocate. He has been featured in podcasts, articles, and speeches to reduce the stigma and educate others about mental health.

Derek is a goalie coach for Chelsea High School and other young ice hockey goalies. He protects his mental health by exercising, reading, meditating, and relaxing with family and friends.
